Eden Bakery, Eden Project

The Eden Project approached Ease to undertake the Construction Management of their new bakeries. With only a two week lead-in and a two week construction period Ease installed a prototype bakery in the flood damaged Biome Link in readiness for Eden’s busy Easter holiday period. Ease worked closely with the creator of the bakery concept, Clive Cobb of Town Mill Bakery, and Eden’s team to deliver an exciting new food offer at Eden.

The prototype proved to be so much a success with Eden’s visitors that Ease were then tasked with completing the installation to make this a permanent offer with over 520 covers and installing the necessary back of house infrastructure. Again this was undertaken in a two week period to enable the full offer to be open in time for the Whitsun influx of visitors. Ease also scheduled, sourced and organised the procurrement of all the necessary componenents for the restaurant, from mugs and soup ladels to conveyor toasters and 5-deck baking ovens.

In total Ease managed to undertake in excess of £500,000 worth of work in two 2 week periods, whilst causing the minimum disruption to Eden visitors who were still using the building to eat and to access the Biomes.

Gaynor Coley, Eden Project Managing Director, said: “We decided to work with Ease because we were confident they would deliver an exceptionally professional job and be able to turn it around in the short timescale required and to budget – which of course they did”

Clive Cobb, Founder & Owner of Town Mill Bakery, said: “Never in a life time doing large scale projects, like that at Eden, have I had such an easy ride. No sooner than I had suggested something then it was done. I feel guilty that I had so little to do and that I did not have any sleepless nights, although Ease may have done!”

Jo Elworthy, Eden’s Director of Learning, said: “Eden are ambitious, they dare to dream and organise to deliver. They like to get things done. Ease, like Eden, believe in the art of the possible. They quickly and efficiently work out what needs to be done, then do it.”

Ease are now undertaking further projects at Eden, including landscaping within the Biomes and improving circulation within the Biome Link building.
